Pets do make wonderful companions. Cats tend to be much easier to care for in comparison with dogs. I tend to gravitate toward "special breed" animals. Persian Cats have beautiful coats, and normally very colorful eyes (Blue Green, and Red). If you are considering purchasing one of these special breeds there are a few things to keep in mind before hand.
First, Persians have heavy and very shaggy coats, it is critical that you brush their hair on a daily basis. In addition, Persians tend to have delicate digestive systems, it would be best to feed them specialty brand food such as Iams. Persians like any other Cat groom themselves daily. Persians usually do develop a problem with "fur balls". Fur balls, tend to accumulate in the cats digestive tract causing them to spit up quite often. Veterinarians can prescribe a special lubricant type jelly to help the animal from spitting up fur. You can try to bathe your cat once in a while however, most cats do not enjoy water and will make a big fuss if you attempt to wash them.
Persian Cats tend to develop respiratory problems. Make sure you keep your eye on your pet for any signs of respiratory distress problems. Veterinarians have medications to treat this problem. I would recommend keeping a specialty bread cat indoors, this breed tend not to fare as well being outdoors. Keeping your cat indoors will defiantly prolong their life span. Persians can live up to 18 or more. last but not least, make certain when buying your cat, the store/owner should present health and breeding papers. If the seller can not produce these documents, I would go elsewhere to make my purchase. Health papers give the customer important information on birth place, breed, color, sex, age, and if tests were conducted to eliminate Feline Leukemia
, and other common diseases among special breeds.
