Persian Cat Care Guide

Having a healthy and happy Persian is a rewarding experience that takes effort and planning to achieve. On this page we will discuss issues related to the care and well being of Persian cats. We also offer our choices for valuable products that will help you maintain your Persian.

Grooming

The Persian cat is a wonderful breed, but compared to shorter hair cats, grooming can be a real chore. Their coat is very thick, and also includes an undercoat so it feels like they have two coats instead of one. They will groom themselves on a regular basis, but you will need to help out. Daily brushing is encouraged to prevent matting of the fur and forming of knots. Brushing will also help control the volume of shedding that takes place. A fine wire brush is an excellent tool to keep the fur clean and smooth.
It really depends on the personality of your Persian, but most will probably enjoy getting brushed. If you start the brushing routine as a kitten, it should become a normal activity that they may even look forward to.
Baths may be necessary after a period of time if the coat becomes dirty or tangled. Most cats do not enjoy baths, so try and limit both the exposure time and frequency to reduce the ‘fear factor'.

How to Care For a Persian Cat

Pets do make wonderful companions. Cats tend to be much easier to care for in comparison with dogs. I tend to gravitate toward "special breed" animals. Persian Cats have beautiful coats, and normally very colorful eyes (Blue Green, and Red). If you are considering purchasing one of these special breeds there are a few things to keep in mind before hand.

Persian Cats
The Persian cat is one of the most beautiful cats with a long, luxurious coat. Owning a Persian gives one the same gratification as owning a beautiful work of art. Persians are noted for their gentle  temperament and ease with which they adjust to new environments, making them ideal show cats. In my opinion, Persians are fully aware of how beautiful they are. They are quiet and, although not shy, tend to be undemonstrative. They are quite loving and affectionate and make wonderful companions, and come in a variety of colors.

The Persian cat has graced the show scene for more than 100 years. Judges and spectators have been impressed with their sweet, gentle nature and long flowing coats which occur in multitude of colours and patterns.

"The ideal Persian should present an impression of a heavily boned, well balanced cat with a sweet expression and soft, round lines. The large round eyes set wide apart in a large round head contribute to the overall look and expression. The long thick coat softens the lines of the cat and accentuates the roundness in appearance."
